Finally, an answer to the most frequently asked question! How much money do webcam models make?
I can tell you how much money I make, but I don’t feel like that would give you a realistic answer to the question of what, on average, webcam models make. After all, I am only one person and you cannot base your expectations of this job off of one persons results. So, I created a webcam model earnings survey and asked my cam girl friends to take it.
A couple of things I want to say before I share the results. 56 performers took this survey, and while that is not a lot compared to number of performers online, I feel like the survey came back with pretty well rounded and accurate results. Also, only verified models took this survey, meaning they have been verified to be webcam performers who are currently camming.
And the results are…
1. What is your age?
62.5% are age 25-34
25% are age 18-24
7% are 35-44
5.4% are 45-54
0% are 55 and older
I feel like this result mirrors what I personally see when I am browsing cam sites. The large majority seem to be 25-34.
2. How long have you been a webcam model?
58.9% say 1-3 years
16.1% say less than 1 year
10.7% say 3-5 years
7.1% say 5-8 years
7.1% say 8+ years
Seems pretty accurate. Most people who get into this are not in it for the long haul.
3. What is your main website?
74.5% say Streamate
9.1% say AdultWork
7.3% say Other Website
5.5% say MyFreeCams
1.8% say iFriends
1.8% say Independent (skype shows only, etc)
0% said Cams.com, Naked.com, Webcams.com, LiveJasmin.com
I think this is pretty accurate as well. The question was what is your MAIN site. Many models, myself included, use other small traffic sites such as cams.com to split cam. Although I was surprised to see AdultWork as the 2nd most popular choice, I expected it to be MyFreeCams. That could be because of the smaller group of models who took the survey. And *gasp* NO models use LiveJasmin as their main site?! Shock!
4. What is your average monthly income from webcam modeling? (Do not include content sales.)
23.2% say $1,000 – $2,000 per month
19.6% say $2,000 – $3,000 per month
10.7% say $500 – $1,000 per month
8.9% say $0 – $500 per month
8.9% say $3,000 – $4,000 per month
7.1% say $4,000 – $5,000 per month
5.4% say $5,000 – $6,000 per month
5.4% say $7,000 – $8,000 per month
5.4% say $10,000+ per month
3.6% say $6,000 – $7,000 per month
1.8% say $8,000 – $9,000 per month
So there you have it. I was honestly quite surprised at the result. I assumed that models on average made more money than this, but then again I only have ever had myself and my few close friends to compare to. If you add up the top 4 answers, 62.4% of models are making less than $3,000 per month.
5. On average, how many hours do you spend webcam modeling per month?
32.1% say 20-40 hours per month
19.6% say 60-80 hours per month
16.1% say less than 20 hours per month
12.5% say 40-60 hours per month
7.1% say 80-100 hours per month
3.6% say 120-140 hours per month
3.6% say 140-160 hours per month
3.6% say 160+ hours per month
1.8% say 100-120 hours per month
I am assuming the ones who say they work the most hours are also the ones who are making the most money. Seems logical. It’s all about putting in the hours to make the money!
6. Overall, how do you feel about your average monthly webcam earnings?
44.6% say I wish I made more
35.7% say I am somewhat satisfied with my earnings
14.3% say I am satisfied with my earnings
5.4% say I am very satisfied with my earnings
So most models wish they made more money. Which hey, don’t MOST people wish they made more money?!
And that’s that. The webcam models earnings survey! If you are in the majority who are making less than $3,000 per month, or you are thinking about becoming a webcam model, know that $3,000 per month is still pretty good money. It’s definitely more than you would make at a minimum wage vanilla job, or many other entry level jobs. And you get the added benefit of being your own boss, setting your own schedule, and having ultimate flexibility. Those things alone are worth their weight in gold!
Thanks to everyone who participated in the survey! I truly do hope that my blog can be a resource full of help, advice, tips, and experience for other models so that the 80.3% of you who are either somewhat satisfied or wish you made more money can do just that – make more money!
